The handoffs framework covers the principles. This page covers the situations where it's not clear how to apply them.

Coming soon. We're working on responses to these questions:

Edge cases and gray zones

  • I used AI for research but rewrote everything in my own words. Do I need to disclose?
  • I used AI to generate an outline but wrote all the content myself.
  • I used AI only for grammar and phrasing — is that different?
  • Someone copied AI output verbatim. Isn't that the real problem?
  • How much AI involvement is "too much"?

Policy questions

  • My school/institution has banned AI use entirely. Does this page override that?
  • My school's policy is vague or doesn't address AI. What do I do?
  • The policy says "AI-assisted work must be disclosed" but doesn't say how.

Collaboration

  • My co-author uses AI and I don't (or vice versa). What do we do?
  • I'm editing someone else's AI-generated draft. Am I responsible?
